My new SmartPhone

After 2+ years I finally got a new cell phone, a Cingular 2125 SmartPhone to be exact.  Yes it is awesome, and yes I'm going to tell you everything about it right now.  I decided to go with Cingular service because of three things:  they have full digital service in Lake Havasu, cheap monthly rate plans, and awesome phones.

When looking for a new phone I knew I wanted a SmartPhone.  A SmartPhone is a cell phone that runs a mobile version of Microsoft Windows.  I kind of always figured that Windows based phones were too expensive and for the more corporate, PDA type person.  But after reading a few good articles on Windows based phones, I decided a SmartPhone was right for me.

So I got the cell phone and holy crap, does it rock!  It runs Windows Mobile 5.0, so it's just like your Windows computer at home.  It comes with your basic Windows programs like Internet Explorer and Windows Media Center.  So I can browse the Internet through Internet Explorer and watch or listen to videos and music through Media Player.  Though the phone only comes with 20MB (I think) of internal storage space, it also has a slot where you can plug in a Mini SD card.  So I can buy a 2GB card that will allow me to store a lot more songs, videos, pictures, programs, etc on this phone.

Programs?  Yes, that's right.  It's a Windows phone, so just like your Windows desktop PC, I can install a huge variety of programs out there.  The possibilities are really endless.

The phone also comes with Pocket MSN.  This allows me to access my Hotmail account where I can send and receive e-mails.  Plus it also includes MSN Messanger, so I can connect and start chatting with my friends.

Some other cool features that I really like include:  1.3 MegaPixil camera, video recorder, and voice recorder.  With the camera I can take decent looking pictures and e-mail them to people through my Pocket MSN Hotmail account.  Also, the phone allows me to record up to 15 minutes (I think) of video with sound.  I already took a couple videos of my walking around my house testing it out.  I can then take the video and watch it through the Media Player on the phone, or transfer it to my PC and watch it there (I'm actually really excited about this, because maybe now I can put some videos of me or whatever on my web site!).  The other thing I really like is the voice recorder.  I can simply record notes to myself.  Bad ass!

Finally, this phone syncs with your home PC.  For example, I use MS Outlook at home.  I use it for e-mails, contacts, calander, and tasks.  When I plug the phone into the computer (via USB) it will automatically sync my phone with all the e-mails, contacts, calander entries, etc that are on my PC.  Awesome!

Obviously, I've only had this phone for a few days so I still have a lot to learn.  But expect to see a lot more info about my phone on this site and maybe even some videos.  I also created a new site topic call Mobile Stuff that I'll use to sort all my phone info.  I've also created a new album in my Gallery called Cell Phone Album where I plan to upload any pictures I've taken with my phone. </excitement> error: excitement termination failed on line 254.  excitement will continue

There's no limit on how much video you can record.  Hundreds of hours should be about right if you've got a beefy memory card.

The bad thing with Smartphones is the bloat that the OEMs put on there, if possible - remove it.  WM5 has a lot of the basic features in the OS now, so you don't need the 3rd party stuff which generally isn't as good.

There's quite a few good Windows Mobile communities to get tips and stuff www.modaco.com springs to mind.

Lol, sorry Catherine.  The joystick is cool and makes navigating the phone really easy.

@Paul - thanks for the info.  I'm still scared to delete anything off this phone that I didnt put on it.  I guess more play will show me what I dont need and what I do.

and you're right about the video recording, I can record as much as my storage allows.  I got 15 mins from a guy who had a smaller storage card.

If you go bugger the phone up you can always hard reset which will bring it back to factory settings.

AKA the default settings... something you *hopefully* won't have to resort to at the end of the day.

Anyway, good to hea  (that you've got your new Cingular 2125 "SmartPhone", 'Mobile Phone', or cell phone, if you will).

Well I'm sure the joystick is better on the c600 than the c500, I can't play some games as it won't move in more than one direction.
