A night at the Ritz-Carlton

Saturday night Jenny's work had their annual Christmas party.  Pretty much like any company Christmas party, everyone from work shows up with their guests and we all get to see what everyone is like outside of the office.  This Christmas party though was pretty damn good.

First let's clarify that Jenny works for a pretty high end, expensive, well recognized law firm.  A law firm that probably makes plenty of money.  And that's great as long as they share that wealth with their employees.  This Christmas party was a great example of that.  This was not some cheesy Christmas party at a bowling alley, or at the very office where everyone works.  Instead this party was at the expensively famous and fancy Ritz-Carlton.  Cool.

Dress was fairly standard for a fancy place.  Business dress/casual.  For me it was no big deal.  I just wore my work clothes to the party.  We arrive around 6:30 pm and the hotel has complimentary valet service which is awesome.  We drive up to the front, some guys greets us and opens our doors.  Then gives us the valet ticket and takes the car.  While watching the car drive away I couldn't help but wonder, "I hope that guy works for the hotel."

Anyways, the party was in a big banquet hall of the hotel.  We had free appetizers, a buffet style dinner, and the best of all, an open bar.  Ah that was great.  I must of drank enough for three people.  After awhile the party started to die down.  Next door there was a second banquet room where another company was having their Christmas party.  But these guys had a live cover band that played a whole bunch of cool tunes.  So yes, after about a dozen rum and cokes plus some wine, there was some dancing on my part.

Around 11 pm is when the music stopped and people started to leave.  But a few of us instead gathered in the main hotel lobby/bar where they had tables, couches, and a grand piano.  For the next few hours we sat around and drank and talked and told stories.  Meanwhile someone played piano in the background.  I wondered, in a place like this that piano person and their friends could of been famous.  I mean average joes don't stay at the Ritz-Carlton right?

Finally, at around 2:30 am we called it a night and went home.  I got to meet a lot of Jenny's co-workers and her boss.  It's nice to finally be able to put faces with names.  And since everyone was drinking I got to hear a few stories that probably shouldn't of been told.  It was a great night and I hope we get to do it again next year.  In the end I don't even want to think how expensive the whole thing was.
