A.F.I. What happened to you?

I really hate losing a great band. Sure AFI fell out of my interest several years ago, but damn they were an awesome band.
While searching through Google video I found this video of them >> Silver and Cold. What the hell is this? Davey? Is that you? What the hell happened to your hair? Or worse yet, what the hell happened to your music? I really hate the goth and emo scene that AFI now falls right into it. It's sad seeing a once kick ass, hardcore punk band turn into this.

Black Sails in the Sunset' is indisputably their best CD yet...and from the looks of it, it's going to remain their best CD. This is what the band used to sound like >> Porphyria Cutanea Tarda. I remember when I saw AFI in concert right after they released 'Black Sails in the Sunset'. Damn it was great. Fast and hard.

The last CD I bought of theirs was 'The Art of Drowning' and that one kind of threw me off. Some of the songs were cool, but the others were....dumb. When I listen to music, I want to rock. I want it loud, fast, and hard, and AFI used to play like that. I don't want to be depressed and cry when I listen to music, which seems to be the path that AFI chooses now. And these new kids or fans of AFI are just as depressing. They all have the same look - gothic emo shit.

I guess I'm happy for AFI though. They seem to be making good money now and are quite popular with their new style (which of course changed a few years ago, I'm just ranting about it now). But I know they left a lot fans behind when they made the move over into the MTV lot.

New AFI should die. Now. I never listened to old AFI since I'm more of a metal-head than a punk rocker. And I seriously hate emos with a passion(Fall Out Boy, Hawthorne Heights etc)

Almost everything can be stereotyped as emo nowadays. Chapstick I love hardcore music too. Ever listen to The Blood Brothers?

No. The lyrics is what makes something emo, not the music. You could have emo country for God sakes. It's just those poor bastards continue to blab about their cruddy lives which are probably awesome since they are popular and you know...make good money. All this breaking up with my girlfriend and heartless crap needs to go from the music industry.

I hear ya chappy. Most of their newer stuff is total garbage. Apparently they lost their record deal with their older company and I think were taken in by WB records or something like that. In any case, the new label didn't like the old style, and made them play music that would sell to lame emo kids. And sell it did! =-p Some of the songs on there are ok, but nothing like what it use to be. Black Sails did kick ass, though I'm out of that kinda genre now. I saw them in concert a few years back not long after the album was released. You could tell they tried to steer away from their newer songs besides what was hard. They mostly played their older tunes, and I liked them a lot when I saw them. So I guess there's still a little hope. ^_^'''

Well, AFI was with Nitro records for the longest time (I think all their records, except the newest one, are on that label). And Nitro records is owned by Dexter Holland from The Offspring (or at least it was). And Dexter really liked AFI and supported them when he could. So I dont think AFI lost the record contract with Nitro. I just think WB came in with more money and said "We are WB! We will make famous world wide! But you have to change your music and grow long, girly hair."

I think Dexter even sings back-up on Clove Smoke Catharsis (near the end). Yeah I don't know what's with the chick hair. He really does look like a goth chick, not a guy.

Well, Davey Havok is gay (seriously), and he's always been weird. He used to paint his face white during concerts and black out the eyes. Kinda cool, but weird.
