Finally! With this new kick ass front end, Centrafuse and its built in navigation system, I finally bought a GPS receiver (pictured above). Well it's not exactly a built in navigation system, more like intergrated. Centrafuse intergrades Destinator maps. So it's just a matter of getting the correct maps and a GPS receiver.
Both have been done and I now have a functional GPS/navigation system in my truck. It's awesome. With Destinator and Centrafuse the navigation system has plenty of features. You can set your favorite places and then get turn-by-turn directions on how to get there (the music stops or dims and a voice tells you to turn right or left, etc). The maps also show points of interest like golf courses, shopping centers, hospitals, schools, etc. It's really cool. I've never used any type of GPS/navigation system before so this is all new and exciting to me.
Last night Jenny and I drove my truck to see how it works. So far it has been flawless. The navigation system also shows your heading (direction), altitude, and speed. Though the speed doesn't quite work right yet. The Centrafuse guys say it's an issue with their program and a fix should be in place in the next beta release. Also when you set a destination, it shows you the quickest way to get there, your ETA, and how long it will take.
It was kind of a pain to finally get everything to work though. Remember, Centrafuse is still in beta form so there are some bugs and weird issues still. My main problem was getting Centrafuse to recognize the GPS receiver. Half the time when I would start Centrafuse, it wouldn't find the GPS receiver. Again, the Centrafuse guys say this is a known issue that they're looking into.
