Do not let your wife find Xbox Live Arcade

My wife, Jenny was nice enough to buy me an Xbox 360 for Christmas and I couldn't be happier with her decision to do so. Jenny, like me, is a gamer. A hardcore gamer? No. But a gaming chick non-the-less. And us guy gamers know how hard it can be to find a girl who is smart, attractive, and most importantly, a gamer.

Because of that last quality a wife or girlfriend won't have a problem with you going to play video games for a few hours. In fact they will probably come and join you. But what happens when you only have one computer, or one gaming console and you both want to play it? She ends up getting to play it while I get to sit by (in)patiently and wait for my turn. And don't get me wrong, I'd rather that be the case than have her not play any video games at all.

But Jenny likes more of those puzzle type games. She does like action games like Half-Life 2, and RPG games like Guild Wars, but puzzle games like Bejeweled 2 also fit her fancy. And now the struggle over who gets to play first has moved from the PC over to the Xbox 360.

It started when Jenny saw me playing Hexic HD on the 360. It's a puzzle type game that can really only hold my attention for about 5-10 minutes (probably due to the lack of blood or explosions). She wanted to play it, so we first created an Xbox Live Gamertag for her (gamertag - Jennbabe) so she could rack up all her own achievements and gamerscore. Then she started playing it and now plays it most of the time. Who needs Gears of War when you got Hexic, right?

That was mistake one. Mistake two came when I showed her Xbox Live Arcade. Here she can find and download lots of other puzzle type games. Currently she has found a Texas Holdem Poker game and has been playing that non-stop this week. Last night I wanted to play some Gears of War, but instead I got to watch her play Poker for two and a half hours. Exciting stuff! That's OK though, she goes to bed earlier than I do. So once she hits the sack, I'll stay up another hour or two and play. Of course none of my friends are online at that time, so I end up playing alone.

But in the end I predict a lot more puzzle games being downloaded and played on my Xbox 360, while I again sit and wait (in)patiently for my turn. Anyone know of a good multiplayer puzzle games?

I have a feeling most of those games (Poker, Bejeweled 2) can be played on the computer. You need to tell her to get the hell off my damn Xbox 360 and play them on the computer :P

But really, I'm sure you can play most of the arcade games online.

Heh, that's actually what happened tonight. While Zelieo and I played some Gears of War, Jenny was on the PC playing some Bejeweled.

Alright, seriously, I think you just described my wife. Now tell me Jenny's 5'4, strawberry blonde, and has a background in psychology and I think we'll have a bit of a problem.

In all seriousness, you just described my wife. She's into games, bust mostly puzzle games. (Kingdom Hearts sucked her in for a while, though, and before we dated it was she who introduced me to Quake II.) Thanks for the warning on XBox Live. We have a PS2 and I was planning to get a 360. I think I'll hold off on that on just a little longer. I'll just go ahead and get her a DS, instead. She's been wanting one of those for months, anyway.

My wife is in the same boat.  She plays the XBL Arcade games more than anything else.  The past week, she's been on a bit of a binge.  Playing hours of Crystal Quest, Heavy Weapon and Wik.

She still rocks the shooters with me, though.  Last night we started playing through Gears of War for the third time - this time on Insane. :)
