Well, I just spent the past 15 hours redesigning my site. Or I could say, I just spent my entire Saturday working non-stop to get this new design out. This design is really just a clean up or final version of the previous design. Except, instead of just finishing my previous design, I went ahead and created this one from scratch.
I'm really happy with this new design. I think it's the most well put together design I've come up with in a long time. The header got lots of new work, including a new logo, background image, and a new position for the navigation links.
The article page also got some updates. Some changes include a new calendar on the left to quickly and easily see when the article was published. Also the article title got some color and a new font. I've also included the article excerpt directly below the title. I've only just started filling in this field, so a lot of older articles will not have one. Finally, a nice summary is included at the bottom of the article page. It just rehashes on the meta data for the article.
Next, the comments area got an overhaul. More straight lines and bigger margins make this area look a lot cleaner and well put together. The comment form also got some color to help it stand out against the page.
Finally, the footer got a lot more detail. Instead of just showing some boring copyright junk, I've included a full site navigation and other interesting links. I think it makes the overall site look more professional.
I still have some work to do on it. I'm not too sure if I like the sidebar items yet. They've always been the biggest hassle for me. And there are still lots of other areas of the site that need touch-ups, but the most important areas are done. I need to go to bed.
So, let me know what you think. Hopefully, this design will hold me over for awhile so I can pay better attention to the web development side of the site.
