Ok, last post about Jack Thompson, I swear! But I just had to post this little gem. Where to start, where to start? As most of my readers know already, Jack Thompson has some type of vendetta against the video game industry. No one really knows why, but many believe it's for more recognition and votes at the polls. Either way, the guy is a complete wacko and Rockstar (developers of Jack's favorite game, Grand Theft Auto) was nice enough to show everyone just that.
Mr. Thompson and Rockstar have some nice history together. Rockstar creates one of the most violent and controversial games ever and Jack Thompson is right there to try and "protect the children." Jack keeps trying to sue Rockstar and other big name companies claiming their video games are corrupting America's youth.
Well in the newest hiccup between the two, Rockstar games was developing a new game called 'Bully'. Not even knowing anything about it or what it looks like, Jack instantly went on his crusade to try and stop this game from being published. So he does what he does best and tries to sue Rockstar. He goes to court and somehow gets the First Amendment shredded. The judge in the case sort of agrees with Thompson but wants to view the game prior to making a decision.
Meanwhile Thompson keeps spreading hate about the game 'Bully'. In one of his many rants he stats that Bully is a game about being a bully in high school and beating other kids up. Rockstar on the other hand, didn't say a word about the game. They didn't try to defend it or tell anyone what the games about. They just let Jack do his normal thing.
Finally, the game was released and this is where it gets good. The game is not about being a bully at all. Instead in this game you play as a new kid in school where bullies run the place. You job is to fight back and eventually rid or free the school from its bullies. Not only that, but when the ESBR got a hold of the game for review, they decided to give the game a 'teen' rating! Ha!
So for the past year, Jack Thompson screamed to the high heavens about this new horrible game called Bully that would eventually turn all our kids into Satan worshipers. He also tried to get the game banned or stopped from being published. And all this time, Rockstar just kept quiet and let Jack dig his own grave. The game gets released with a 'teen' rating and is nothing like what Jack Thompson said it would be.
In the end I guess you can say Rockstar didn't really pwn Jack Thompson. Instead they let Jack Thompson pwn himself. Click me for a funny comic.

CSS and our love-hate relationship
I know he means well, but he's just going at it the wrong way. Should little kids be able to play violent/sexy video games? Of course not. Should the government or Jack Thompson be the ones to determine what's appropriate for kids and what's not? Of course not - that's why the First Amendment is there.
Ooo. This article infuriates me. I guess they didn't play the game either.

Also I first heard about this game on our local news. They reported it just like Jack; that it was about picking on other kids, that you play as the bully.
What Jack Thompson fails to realize is that everytime he throws a fit about a game, it provides tons of extra advertising for that game.
kids will want to play it because it's "forbidden" and adults will want to play it to see what all the hype is about. It's the best advertising
Rockstar could hope for.
Maybe next time Jack Thompson will do his homework on a game instead of use the title of it to make a summary...If he even has his job anymore.
