I've been getting a few inquiries about my carPC. People have been wondering more and more about it - like how it was done, what I'm doing with it now, and what I plan to do with it. Well, the sad thing is, it's in the exact same situation that it was in when I first started putting it together.
I plan on re-doing the wooden console that it sits in. I actually want the screen to sit higher and more forward. Right now its kind of out of reach. Plus I'd like to add more into the console like front USB ports, slot for a slim line CD/DVD drive, cup holders, etc. So pretty much the entire thing needs to be re-done. This is why I haven't really done anything with it since we originally built it.
Also, I'm still looking for a good front end for me to easily play music, videos, GPS, etc, etc (also needs to be designed for a smaller touch screen with big buttons and such). Currently I'm using a free program called 'MediaCar'. Unfortunately it hasn't been supported or updated in the past few years (abandon ware). There are other free programs out there like RoadRunner, MediaEngine, Centrafuse but they're all home made type apps and seem kinda buggy. I've been thinking about going with Windows Media Center Edition, but I have zero experience with it and don't know what to expect. Anyways, if anyone knows of a good (preferably free) front end, let me know.
I also created a 'carPC' topic on the right so you who are interested can keep track on my project. I also updated one of my older post with more info on the carPC project. Check it out here. Thanks.
