New carPC frontend - Centrafuse

Centrafuse Logo

Yea!  Another frontend for me to figure out.  Seriously though this frontend looks to be the frontend to end all other frontends.  It's called Centrafuse and it absolutely rocks!  This is probably my third or fourth frontend that I've gone through since I build my carPC.  The problem is that most of the frontends are created by dudes in their home for free.  So the quality isn't always there.  But Centrafuse looks and acts like a completely professional frontend for my carPC control needs.  But then again, Centrafuse is not going to be free.

Currently Centrafuse is unreleased and still in beta/testing stages.  You can download and try the beta for free, but the final version will cost money.  Which is fine for me as long as long as the product is worth its  price.  I don't know how much Centrafuse will cost but I can tell you from my experience with the beta that it'll be worth it.

Centrafuse has a lot of intergraded features that I like.  With built in support for mp3, wma, avi, mpeg, wmv, divx, jpeg, gif, png, etc, etc.  With the media player you can play mp3 and wma files.  Future releases will support ogg and protected wma files.  Video plays avi, mpeg, wmv, and divx files perfect.  Though it cannot play ogm video files (damn, that's the format all my anime is in).  It also has a picture viewer and slideshow option.

Centrafuse also has a built in navigation system called Desinator.  If I had a GPS receiver then I could use this app to get directions, maps, driving speed, etc.  Hey, I finally did buy a GPS receiver and should have it sometime next week.  Then I can fully test it out and tell you guys how cool it is.

If and when your carPC is connected to the Internet, you can then check the local weather and even browse the Internet with Internet Explorer intergration.  Pretty damn cool.  It also has support for AM/FM/XM radio (with proper hardware installed).  Phone support is also included which allows you to plug your phone into your carPC.  Then you can make and receive calls through your carPC and car stereo.  There is support for smartphones but it doesn't work in this beta release (damn).  There's also ODBII support.  With this you can connect your carPC with your actual car computer.  Then you can check your cars info, like speed, temp, rpms, error messages.  It's perfect for car diagnostics.  Unfortunately though, my truck is too old to support this.  Maybe my next truck will have it.

Anyways, I definitely recommend Centrafuse for anyone looking for a carPC frontend.  Grab the beta and try it for free while you can.  The final version should be released at the end of summer.  You can download the beta from Centrafuse's web site here >> http://www.fluxmedia.net.
