Some more Vista amazements

Now I know Vista is supposed to be the next great thing but I try not to get into too much hype.  Now I've read lots of articles on how Vista will be so much better than any previous Windows versions and I was like, sure ok.  But I never really got excited reading about what it will do....until it does something that amazes me personally.

Anyways, I couldn't stand it anymore and bought myself a new motherboard for my broken computer at home.  It's an ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe.  It's just an upgraded version of my other motherboard of which I'm still waiting for it to be returned to me (when it does I'll probably just use that motherboard to build another PC).

To the point now.  I knew Windows was not going to like having a new motherboard installed.  I've installed new motherboards twice before under Windows OS's (once under Windows ME and the other under Windows XP).  Both times Windows would not work and I would either have to re-install it or repair the hell out of it.  Let's just say both times were a headache.  So I wasn't looking forward to see how Windows was going to react to this motherboard change.

So I installed the new motherboard and turned on the computer (the computer works fine now BTW).  Now I have a dual boot of Windows XP and Vista.  So first I try to load XP.  It wont load.  The computer restarts when it gets to the loading XP screen.  Tried it mulitple times; same issue.  Tried it again a dozen times in Safe Mode; same issue.  It would load a few drivers then restart the computer.  I couldn't get into XP at all.  Not too surprising.

So I tried to boot into Vista.  Shockingly Windows Vista started up with no issues.  Once it loaded it knew I had a new motherboard installed and processed to install/download/updated all the hundreds of drivers that come with a motherboard.  I had to restart the computer once when it was done.  After that Vista worked flawlessly again.  I couldn't believe it.

Now that's what excites me.  Instead of just reading how great Vista will be, I actually experienced it first hand.  Well done Microsoft.  It may of taken you a decade but it looks like you're finally getting it right.

Finally, as for Windows XP I had to do an in-place repair on the system.  After which Windows XP worked fine again.  But of course during the repair, XP over-wrote the MBR (master boot record) and now I can't get into Vista again.  Damn it.  Looks like I'll have to re-install Vista, unless anyone out there knows of a way to get back into it.
