WebNV turns 3 and gets a makeover

And as you can see, to celebrate another birthday WebNV got a complete makeover. I decided to go for a more streamlined, simple look. It still needs some finishing touches here and there, but overall the design is done. I wasn't actually going to bust out this design until the beginning of next year, but due to my 9rules acceptance and site birthday, I thought I'd rush and try to get it finished today. I am still having some issues with IE6 support, but other than that most of the CSS coding is done. What do you think?

Moving on to the birthday celebration, my beloved WebNV turns another year older roughly today. I say roughly because I know I originally registered the domain sometime in December 2003. But after a year I let the domain expire and didn't renew it for a couple of weeks. Then on December 20, 2004 I re-registered the domain, and it's been running ever since. I just renewed my domain for another 2 years, so let's hope the site last that long.

If you're interested, let's look at some history and statistics for WebNV. I started this site right after I learned some HTML. I loved it, and for the next year I designed my site using just HTML and some Flash. So yeah, it was a pretty static site. It wasn't really a blog or anything. Just a little site about me, my likes, and some pictures. But after I re-registered my domain in 2004 I wanted to build a more dynamic site, like a blog where I could post about shit that most people wont care about. So I really started getting into PHP and MySQL database coding. With a lot of practice and online tutorials I was able to build a simple news type system. And over the months I learned more and more and was able to do more and more.

Then came the Web 2.0 fad.  Gone were the days of tables and simple browser compatibility coding.  In came the new kid CSS. CSS layouts were the new hip fandangle. If your site didn't use a CSS layout, then it sucked. So for the past year now I've had the joy of working with CSS and Photoshop. I've gotten fairly decent at it, and think my web design skills keep getting better. I'm excited to see what I can do in the future.

Moving onto my site statistics, I only have records dating back to December 2004. Any info before that is gone unfortunately. So for the 2005 year I've racked up these stats:

  • Unique visitors: 2,112
  • Number of visits: 5,556
  • Hits: 66,6875
  • Bandwidth: 4.08 GB

Below are the stats I have so far for the 2006 year:

  • Unique visitors: 24,620
  • Number of visits: 45,491
  • Hits: 1,701,058
  • Bandwidth: 12.15 GB

Both stats are not really impressive when comparing them to other sites. But when comparing my 2005 year to my 2006 year, I've seen a huge increase! This gives me confidence that I must be doing something right.  Let's hope the next few years sees the same increase or more.

Lastly, I'd like to thank everyone who visits and helps with the site. Without your views or comments, this site would be dead and I probably would of moved on to something worse. :) So thanks again everyone!

Thanks.  Yeah the comments section still needs a little work (especially if you are using Internet Explorer 6 - and in that case you should update to Internet Explorer 7 or Firefox).

Plus the smilies are kind of ugly looking with the dark background.

I think your page could use some breast implants. That would make it a perfect makeover.

Well, that was my first and only cruise I've ever been on.  So I don't really have anything to compare it with.

But for being my first cruise I thought it was awesome.  I like food and I like eating, and on this cruise they had tons of food for me.

That made my vacation worth it.

I seriously can't decide between this or the last. It's the main logo that sells me.

Speaking of cruises, I'm going on a Caribbean for vacation. Personally I'd prefer a Mexican cruise.......but then again Smith will be on that ship just messin' just messin'

The header looks a bit flat, but the rest of the site looks pretty cool. Congrats!

Thanks guys.  So from the sounds of it, both Tony and Ransom don't really like the header/logo.  I'm very bad at creating them too.

Anyone want to make one for me?

I think WebNV graphic would look better as a single line.

Well, I kind of changed the main logo. Now it's on one line and it's got a reflection. It's still pretty simple, but I like it. I guess you can call it Web 2.0 - afied.

But it still feels like it's missing something. Maybe a tag line? God I hate trying to figure those out.
