I've been hearing a lot people bitch about Dell computers lately. I hear how they are lame, or crappy, or newbish. But I still think they are great computers for a majority of PC users out there. Sure they are not for everyone, but they come in handy for the technologically inexperienced end-user. Plus, you just can't beat some of their prices.
I know a couple people right now that are looking for new computers. They're not PC techs, or games, or hackers. Instead they are your average computer user. Turn the computer on, check e-mail, surf the net, type a document, print some items, etc. These people don't really care to know how or why a computer works, they just want or need one. Working with computers I understand this. Sure I get frustrated when someone turns off their monitor thinking they just turned off the computer, but hey I wouldn't have a job if it wasn't for these people.
If someone is looking to get a new PC they can just call up Dell or visit their site. I mean for $300 you can get a brand new computer and monitor. And a fairly descent one at that. Plus you get that great warranty and customer service free with the purchase. Ok, so maybe the customer service can lack sometimes, but knowing it's there helps a lot of people get over their PC fears. I've also worked with Gateway and HP computers and the products and support Dell provides surpasses all of them. You really cannot beat Dell's products, prices, and support.
Of course Dell computers are not for everyone, myself included. But that's where most of the Dell bashing comes from....the l33t PC haxor. I mean there are some things about Dell I don't like. For instance some of their cases are almost impossible to get into, but maybe that's just to keep the average PC user out of the system. Another things is their bundled software. Most of it, if not all of it, is crap; AOL junk, Corel crap, etc. But I'm sure bundling this software in their systems helps to lower the price.
Still Dell is a good PC to help people get into the computer world. I always recommend Dell for the new PC user. Mainly because I know they should be happy with their experience. No Dell did not pay me to write this, though that would be nice. I just think Dell gets an unfair view in the eyes of some more experienced PC users. Hey, everyone has to start somewhere.
