Windows Mobile Device Center Beta

Windows Mobile Device Center icon

Yesterday Microsoft released a new optional update for Windows Vista Beta 2.  It's an update I've been looking forward to since I installed Vista last week.  The update is Windows Mobile Device Center Beta.  In Windows XP and earlier it was known as Activesync.

With this mobile device center I can now plug in my Smartphone and automatically sync my e-mail, contacts, tasks, and calendar info between my phone and MS Outlook 2007.  Good stuff.  I can also sync songs between Windows Media Player 11 and my phone, as well as photos and videos.

I've only been using the Mobile Device Center for an hour or so now but I haven't come across any issues yet.  I simply ran Windows Update and it was an optional update.  I downloaded and installed the update in a matter of minutes and then plugged in my phone.  Right away it created a partnership between Vista and my mobile phone.  Then it went ahead and sync'd all my crap.

The menu and layout of Mobile Device Center is a lot nicer and easier to navigate than Activesync was.
