Cowboy Bebop

Cowboy Bebop

I recently got my hands of the first season of Cowboy Bebop. For those who don’t know, Cowboy Bebop is an awesome Japanese anime that came out several years ago. The first season is 26 episodes long (I think). Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim has been showing this cartoon for the past year or so and that’s when I first got hooked.

The problem is that it’s hard to catch an episode on TV when it only plays once or twice a week at 2 o’clock in the morning. So of course I would miss a majority of episodes and no longer understand what was happening in the story. Logical conclusion: Get the entire first episode on video. So I finally did that a few days ago and have been watching it whenever I’m home.

The DVD version is much better of course. It’s still the dubbed english version so I don’t have to read subtitles at the bottom and loose most of the action on the screen. Plus the DVD versions are unedited and contain more blood, violence, cursing, and nudity. Some of the few things I enjoy quite a bit.

What makes Cowboy Bebop so great? Just about everything. The story takes place in the future and follows a group of space bounty hunters as they try to make ends meat. The beginning episodes don’t really run together or relate to each other, other than letting you get to know the characters. But later on in the season, the complicated story of each main character unravels to truly suck you into the show.

Action, Action, Action. And let’s not forget the action. Cowboy Bebop is filled with lots of gun fights, hand-to-hand combat, and space ship dogfights. Very exciting.

Music! I almost forgot about the music. Honestly the music behind Cowboy Bebop is one of its best features. Majority of its soundtrack is jazz or big band music. Just watch the opening credits if you can. Watching that and listening to it for the first time, I knew this was going to be a great show. I’ve actually had the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack for awhile now and still listen to it every now and then. It’s great music.

So if you’re into anime or just want to watch something new, check out Cowboy Bebop.
