Assassin's Creed is finally out for the PC

Assassin's Creed for the PC is finally here. It's been a long wait and I've only been able to play if for a few minutes, but my first impressions are good...really good!

Assassin's Creed

One of my most anticipated games for the PC was finally released a couple days ago. Assassin's Creed has been a game I've known about since it was first announced to the world. But I was never that interested in the game until about nine months ago when lots of gameplay footage and screen shots were released. The game looked amazing and I couldn't wait to play it.

Well I finally picked it up last night. Unfortunately, I only got a few minutes of game play in before I had to stop. But those few minutes, including the opening sequence and tutorial were surpassing my expectations. The game looks like it's going to be a hell of a good time.

One thing that threw me off were the controls. Again, I've only played it for a few minutes so I may have not gotten used to the controls yet, but some of the key mapping seems off. I'm sure I'll get used to it soon, but if not, I might have to remap some of the keys.

And that's one thing that worries me about this game - the fact that, despite what the developers say, this game is a console port. And one of the biggest issues with console ports are their controls. But I'm sure more game play will prove to me that there's nothing to worry about.

So I'm off to play some more. Expect my full opinion of the game once I complete it.

There's been a big fuss about what is apparently a terrible bug in this PC release - the DRM seems to conflict with certain DVD drives, making it impossible to run the game. So that's awesome. It's reassuring to hear that you haven't had that problem, at least, so maybe it's not as widespread as I thought.

I'll probably pick this up when (if) a patch rolls around, in any case.

Funny you should mention that, because I actually got the game through Steam.

yeah well that is less reassuring now thanks a lot >:(

I'm not one for buying things over the internet, myself. If it's possible to buy a physical copy I will almost always go for that. It's a bit old fashioned of me, but boxes are pretty shut up.

I suppose if they don't bother to fix the issue I won't have a choice, though.

Well, it was the same situation for me with Bioshock. The horrors I heard about its DRM were a non-issue when I got the game through Steam.

Yes, I would much rather have the boxed/phyical copy of the game, but I like the convenience of buying, playing, and avoiding these DRM issues through Steam.

Well pretty much every fuss that gets made about DRM is total nonsense, in my experience. Bioshock's DRM wasn't an issue at all. The only valid complaints about DRM as far as I can tell have to do with that awful StarForce gash, which has thankfully fallen out of favour with publishers.
